Introduction: One of a handful of London hotels that can claim to be truly known throughout the world, The Savoy Hotel is located in central London on the Strand. While this is a busy main road its also within a short stroll from the heart of London's night-life. Just behind the hotel is the River Thames which separates London into North and South halves.
Hotel: The Savoy hotel London has always been a favourite place for the rich and famous looking for the ultimate in exclusive establishments with the very best of traditional English service with the best in modern amenities and technology and to this day still remains one of London's most prestigious and opulent hotels, with 263 rooms and panoramic views of the River Thames across Savoy Place and the Victoria Embankment,
Trivia: The Savoy has been at the forefront of world hotel services and development since the day it opened and established many firsts. These have included; first hotel to be totally fireproofed, to generate its own electricity supply, to provide the majority of its rooms with en-suite bathrooms (67), have its own artesian well, (420 ft), install electric lifts, provide constant hot and cold running water in each bedroom, offer 24 hour room service, run fully serviced apartments in Britain , lays a ½ acre area carpet through the foyer and restaurant . The Savoy has then gone on to install air-conditioning, steam-heating and soundproofed windows, have its own laundry service.
The hotel has been closed since December 2007 for extensive renovations. The cost of these renovations has risen to more than £150 million due to unforeseen complexities involved in the refurbishment.
Hapap were first engaged to carry out small works, but has since gone on to carry out;
- Dx Air conditioning
- Ductwork
- Pipe work fabrication and installation
- Plumbing
- Electrical installation including small power, lighting and emotive power.
- BMS
- Natural Gas pipe work supply and installation.
- Commissioning of the above.
The construction fit-out contract for this particular area of the project was unusual in that there were significant areas of confined working spaces over two floor levels, further complicated by the complex mechanical and electrical installations - all requiring very tight management in order to deliver the spaces within the time frames specified.
